DESPEDIDA LODGE WEEK  2

Day of arrival. We must add that we witnessed an incredible battle between two males of the Guanacos, a camel related to the llama,  on arrival lodge. These two animals that we have not come so close to in previous years, were suddenly inside the fence that surrounds our lodge and fought so  the blood splattered. It was all unreal and not even the guides  or the owner of the lodge had seen the equivalent before. It was brutal to see how nature works for these animals where a winner will be fought who gets the opportunity to pass on their genes to the next generation. For city dwellers, this was difficult to witness and when we also interact with many other species in and around the river Rio Grande, it is in itself a great nature experience, albeit with a calm and relaxing setting.

DAY 1

There were high expectations for the group as the rumors from our last week were brilliant with a lot of big fish landed and lost. The river had sunk down a few cm from the last and still very clear. The weather that met us the first morning when we arrived at Artura and all the other pools was slightly cloudy and with about 15 degrees in the air, light wind. Actually very nice conditions as the water temperature was about 9 degrees. Both Camilla, Stefan and Long visit the Rio Grande for the first time. While the others begin to become familiar with this wonderful river in the Land of Fire. Both Asle and Long, who fished together in Arturo, caught fish during the first fishing session. Asle landed a beautiful fish of about 6 kg that had been on the river for about two weeks, from a small dark reef on its back.

Long who landed his very first sea trout in Rio Grande this morning was in top form and his wonderful YESSSSSSS was heard a long way when the fish was in the net. Even beavers and nearby Guanacos pricked up their ears after Long's glorious outburst. Real fishing joy in other words, wonderful to be a part of. Long's fish was a beautiful male fish of about 8 kg. Vigorous as just beating and set the standard for what it is like to fish large, coarse, freshly caught sea trout in the Rio Grande at this time of season.

Lars and Bo, Bosse among famous, also landed great fish this first day and Camilla had several nice fighters with big fish. Stefan had the same thing, we can safely refer to saying we got off to a great start to the week. Then with Long as the happiest of all this first day.

DAY 2

This was the day when Lars and Bosse were to experience big and hard fighters with Rio Grande's adult fisherman. One fish after another grabbed the flies of the boys from Sweden. And there were many runs with fish this day in Tommy. A pool that is described in previous minutes and that holds a lot of fish at this water level. It was an incredibly good fishing day for Bosse and Lars who landed 10 large fish with the largest just over 10 kg. We congratulate you so much.

Camilla and Stefan were together in Medio. Also a pool that holds a lot of nice fish. Camilla took on a 2instincts' Argentina nymph and threw it into the upper part and the pool. Here there is good depth and the fly was driven down into the pool with several changes of the line. Suddenly it chops. Camilla screams  " ÆÆÆÆÆYYYYAAAA,  what should I do it rages away "   it comes from Camilla who has not fished for so long with a fly rod. After a few minutes of hard fighting with a fish we estimate at 8 kg based on the many jumps this fish made, it was victory for the fish and slack line for Camilla. " But we will try again "  it comes from Camilla who has now really got blood on her teeth.

After checking the leader and hook, there was another throw in the same pool. It's chopping again. Monster fish over 10 kg break the water table and squirt away, upstream. Camilla is completely put out and again the fish wins the battle. " Now I need a coffee " it comes from Camilla, this is completely sick. It was a blow out for Camilla this day but the experiences will be remembered forever, we are sure. Camilla worked well.

Stefan hit with 4 great fish this day, the largest at almost 9 kg, the others between 6 kg and 8 kg. Stefan, who is now almost completely out of salmon mode and into trout fishing mode is really on the cutting edge. Wonderful to see and hear how mending of line, drifting of fly and banana basket suddenly works and gives new focus.  Asle based in Trondheim, landed many fine fish this day. 6 pieces in total. All beautiful fishermen who gave Asle canon fine fighters for a long time. Especially the three 8 kilos who jumped and danced down in Medio. It was awesome to see. Asle kept calm in the critical phases of the fig and made it easy for the guide to raise these super nice shiny logs, congratulations Asle. After two days of fishing, we have landed 32 great fish, great and congratulations to everyone in the group.

DAY  3

We fish in the lower part of our stretch. The river has actually risen a few centimeters and got a tiny color, if we are in good faith. Everyone is on the chopping block and it does not take long before the first fish slams shut. It is Stefan and Camilla who fish Arturo who is first in fish. Stefan uses a light two-handed rod with sinker line and nymph. The first of 3 fish this morning for Stefan is a silvery male fish directly from the sea. The fish gives Stefan a hard fight in Arturo but Stefan keeps calm and the guide can easily haul the fish in the lower part of this long pool. The next two fish are the same size, between 8 and 9 kilos. Congratulations to Stefan for well done fishing with nymph and banana basket.

DAY 4

What a day this was going to be. The water level went up a few cm and new fish came on the river. Already in the first round, Camilla clinched with a beautiful shiny freshly caught trout of 8.5 kg. What a wonderful experience for Camilla who with this fish got a new pers with many kilos. Congratulations so much Camilla on a job well done. In the evening session, it was Bo and Lars who took the trip to Tommypool. It was an experience completely out of the ordinary.

The boys landed 21 great fish this evening and Bosse set a new personal kilo record in a row. The biggest for Bosse was 11 kg this evening in Tommy. Lars was on a run with fish most of the time and landed many beautiful fish over 8-9 kg and landed 11 fish in total. It's hard to describe this evening in Tommy, but incredible movie clips blke it and the undersigned look forward to showing this to the group that otherwise landed 38 fish this wonderful evening in Rio Grande. During the dinner, the Godbiten pin was also handed out to Bosse who used Godbiten on his last fish. Congratulations Bosse and thank you for the trust.

DAY 5

First comment this morning was  " Fytti as time flies away! ". We have been fishing for 4 days already and it has all been a dream that we wish would never end. This day we fish again in our lower zone. Lars is on the hook this morning and it does not take long before the first fish is hooked. Lars only uses a one-handed rod in Rio Grande and this morning new 4 fishermen had to register a passport and then be guided into Juan Carlos' net. Lars has thus landed 25 fish when we sit down to the lunch table this fifth day in Rio Grande. Fantastic considering that the average weight is about 7 kg.

Camilla, Stefan and Asle also land lively new fish that came on the river through the night. We congratulate everyone on a great morning session. Long sat down on the river bank and took out the stationery between the fishing sessions. This resulted in a beautiful travel letter with drawings of both birds and animals. Really nice to see Long enjoying himself along the banks of the Rio Grande while big freshly caught fish roll on the surface. " You get really inspired by such an environment "  it comes from Long who has also landed many great fish these days. Congratulations so much Long.

The afternoon on day 5 was also brilliant. Camilla and Stefan were together in Arturo. A hole that always delivers. This evening, Camilla and Stefan got to be part of their life's fishing experience. It picked up new fish in the pool and it was like a big explosion of fish. The fishermen were chopped and the guide ran from the upper part to the lower part of the pond for hauling in one set. Camilla and Stefan landed 9 beautiful shiny fish and lost at least as many. It was all surreal as Stefan told at the dinner table. We congratulate you on a wonderful evening.

DAY 6

This is our last day for this time in the Rio Grande. We are already aware that we must experience this several times, regardless of how the last fishing day will be. This is because everyone has experienced something unique and everyone has memories and big fish on their retina already. And the last fishing day was a unique experience for Asle. Asle landed 18 fish with an average weight of about 7 kg. Absolutely wonderful, we are sure that this day and not least the evening will be remembered for a lifetime. Among other things, this is what makes the Rio Grande the world's best sea trout river. If we'll be back, of course.

Thanks to everyone who was with 2instincts to the Rio Grande this past week of January, we hope to meet again at the same time and place next year. Many thanks to our eminent chef who contributed to glorious dinners, lunches and evenings every single day throughout the week.
